helping your baby's development - Young Pregnant & Parenting

Helping your baby's development

It is important to speak to your child even when they are very small. And, as your baby grows, listen to what they have to say. All children need love and attention in a safe environment. They also need to learn how to walk, talk, think, play, learn, and love you back. You can help your child's development by doing various activities together, such as:

  • Talking, reading stories, singing
  • Climbing, walking, swinging, swimming
  • Playing with other adults and children, taking turns with toys and equipment.

Just to be sure

If you are worried about a baby's development, the Maternal and Child Health Care Nurse can refer you to an Early Intervention Centre in your area where the child will be assessed (checked out) and you can speak to specially trained people.
