If you're having penis-vagina sex or penis - anus sex, then condoms are the only way to help prevent STIs. Not everyone likes using condoms, but they are the only thing that can help to protect you from infections that can be passed on during sex. Using a water-based lubricant like Wet Stuff or KY Glyde on the outside of the condom is best because it helps to prevent the condom from breaking. The lubricant makes it nice and slippery, and reduces friction.

The other important thing to remember is that some STI's have no obvious symptoms and so no matter how much you and your sexual partner care for each other, neither of you can know for sure if you have an infection.
