Sharing a house - Young Pregnant and Parenting

Sharing a house

Sharing a place is one way of keeping living costs down. Share Registers are services that give information about people who would like to share and who have a place to offer or who are looking for somewhere to live. The following organisations have share registers:

  • Council of Single Mothers and their Children, Collingwood
  • Young Women’s Housing Shopfront, Collingwood
  • Women’s Information Referral Exchange

Your local Youth Resource Centre may also have a Share Register.

You should think very carefully about the people that you share a house with. If there are probelms with a fellow tenant not paying rent or destroying the property you have very limited legal rights.

Your rights as a tenant

The Tenant’s Union of Victoria can provide you with information about your rights if you are renting your accommodation and are having tenancy problems. They can tell you where your nearest Tenants Advice Service is The Tenants Union, Fitzroy can be contacted on 9416 2577.
