Maintenance

Maintenance is money that is paid by one parent to the other parent to support the child when the parents are separated. To claim maintenance from the father of a child born outside of marriage (ex-nuptial) it must be proven who the father is. The Family Law Act recognises fatherhood if:

- the father's name is on the birth certificate
|
- the father formally admits that he is the father or
|
