Your Relationships

If you have children or you are pregnant your relationships with the people around you become very, very important. There are many people who can support you as a young parent but for you the most important relationship might be the one you have with the baby’s father. It could also be a sexual relationship with another young man or it may be with a woman.
Many young women find their relationships with their partners change when they become pregnant or have a baby. Sometimes relationships even break up. If this has happened to you, you may be feeling very lonely and uncertain about what to do next.
Partners can also feel very confused about parenting a child or they may be jealous of your relationship with the baby. Young women and their partners may like the opportunity to talk to someone about the changes they are going through. Professional counsellors can talk with you about the way you are feeling and help you to cope with it all. You can do this as a couple or you can see someone on your own.

Your Friends and Family
|
Your friends and family will probably want to help but may not be sure how. Try and let your friends and family know how they can help you and what you are feeling.
When it is time for you to have your baby you may want a support person with you. This could be a partner, a family member, a friend or a peer support person.
A social worker at the local hospital could help you find a support person if you don’t have one.
